This summer the FIFA World Cup will be held in Canada, Mexico and the USA. When watching the game with friends, can you chit-chat like a pro, or could you use some freshening up on the offside rule? (Tip: There is a simple version and a sophisticated formulation that no one knows.)
Webinar: All You Ever Wanted to Know About Soccer (but Never Dared to Ask)
Wednesday, June 3
Noon-1:30 p.m. (Eastern time)
We will briefly cover the history of soccer, the greatest nations and players in this sport, some basic tactics and a bit of soccer philosophy (e.g. total football). We will also answer this question: Why is soccer is the greatest sport of all? (Hint: It is diverse, dynamic, prone to mistakes and sometimes unfair, and it is both simple and complicated at the same time.)
Whether you are an absolute beginner or you play soccer yourself, this webinar will provide you with some new insights and some fun trash-talk for the great event.
This webinar will be led by Janine Ludwig, the academic director of Dickinson’s Bremen program. She is a literary scholar, the vice head of the Institute for Cultural German Studies (ifkud) at the University of Bremen and the chairwoman of the International Heiner Müller Society. She has been following soccer for 20 years and is fan of the Bundesliga team Werder Bremen in Northern Germany.
Please register by Monday, June 1. The Zoom link will be included in your confirmation email.
